Think music videos.
Think TV commercials. Think Winona Ryder floating up to the ceiling singing 'Shake Senora' in Beetlejuice. Now mix them and remix them. Scratch them like a DJ scratching samples. This is taking DJing to another level. This is live mixed electronic music you can watch. This is entertainment which suits a short attention span. This is an evening of visual addiction. This is Sampology. Sampology is Australian, which means you're just as likely to see samples from Summer Heights High as you are a Michael Jackson film clip. You're going to understand the cultural references. You're going to see scenes you've all but forgotten from childhood tv series like The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. They'll be mixed in with sounds to which you can breakdance. Even Peaches said that Sampology makes her want to breakdance! Peaches!!! Sampology will change the way you think about DJs. He's coming to the Northern, Friday 21st May. You can win a double pass by telling us your most favourite movie scene to dance to. Email your response to [email protected] by Thursday 20th. You've gotta be 18+ to enter and will need to show ID at the door. Winners are chosen at random and notified by email. Please include your mobile number if you'd like to be notified by SMS. Dee Dee: this Melbournite may have only stepped off the boat in Byron a few months ago but he has firmly entrenched himself in the Byron music scene already and is Liquids number one resident player. His flavour is stonking but funky, chunky and sassy! Dirrrtay! Dave C: Liquid head honcho and all-round party veteran, this vintage playa is the “Grange” of the Liquid line-up. With a unique take on the “Ministry Of Sound” flavour, Mr C gets his home floor heaving every time. Nirav: Another NNSW veteran, Nirav has played most gigs all young guns dream of playing. A regular on the Gold Coast DJ circuit nowadays Nirav makes a welcome return to one of his old stomping grounds: Liquid! And a stomping floor he’ll create with his stomping set this NYE. Stomping! Adam James Taylor: This multilingual, many-talented pretty boy is a Liquid favorite. He’s an all-rounder: from start of the night to end of the night, his versatility has made him indispensible. The ladies love him, the guys love him, and we love him. And he rocks the discothèque. Dave B: The smoothest player on the Liquid roster, this ex-Sydneysider brought class and real house music to Liquid. And still does! 2IC he may be, but number 1 mixmaster he is. House is his friend and his ability to attract dancefloor connoisseurs has ensured that that floor quickly turns into a serious dance-fest... Dance-fest? Whatever, he brings... and he brings! Buzz: ...is the Buzz around town! Buzz is the new kid on the block and is building tidy little legion of loyal followers. Well “little” might not accurately describe it: but BIG does. Buzz is the bizzle! Rubix: Just who is this guy? You know him now! He is the one-man super funk show, the producer of Liquids SOLID Thursday night funk and all things broken beats: Eclectic Funk. And he’s a veritable turntable wizz to boot. Special Guests: yes! Any good club has Special Guests! And any good club keeps it hush hush... Piqued your interest? We’re excited! (from the Liquid Press Release) Winners will be notified by return email and sms if number provided. Competition open to 18+ only, ID will be required at the door. Competition closes Wed Dec 30th. ![]() Chilled out dubs, trancefloor grooves, ambient drum 'n bass accompanied with live visuals for your audio-visual pleasure. Sound intriguing? Good luck! ![]() ![]() The Stanton Warriors have long been Australian festival favourites, now here's a rare chance to catch them playing in Byron Bay. True pioneers of a sound that broke all the rules, Stanton Warriors took breaks and twisted them beyond all recognition, dropping speaker shattering basslines and massive beats. They've produced and remixed the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Fat Boy Slim, Basement Jaxx and Missy Eliott - it’s easy to see why they are regarded as the number 1 heavyweights of breaks. Joining them on the night will be Against The Grain’s top dog Skool Of Thought, who coined the phrase 'heavyweight breaks' and has remixed Groove Armada, Freestylers and Pendulum.
